Parents of Ga. teen found dead in mat want inquiry

ATLANTA (AP) — Lawyers for the parents of a south Georgia teenager found dead at school inside a rolled-up gym mat are calling on the state's governor to order a coroner's inquest in the case.

The body of 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson was found Jan. 11, and sheriff's investigators concluded that he died in a freak accident. Johnson's parents insist someone must have killed him.

Johnson's parents and their lawyers spoke Wednesday at a "Who Killed K.J." rally held on the steps of the Georgia Capitol.

The U.S. attorney in Macon announced in October that he planned to conduct a formal review in the case.

A spokesman for Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal says the governor is waiting on the conclusions of federal authorities before determining whether there is a need for further state action.
