HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (AP) — State Sen. Bert Johnson is running for the Detroit-area congressional seat to be vacated by Gary Peters, who is running for U.S. Senate.
Johnson announced his campaign Monday for the 14th Congressional District. The Highland Park Democrat and Detroit native is in his first term as a senator and served two terms as a state representative.
Many Democrats are running for the Democratic-leaning seat in 2014. State Sen. Vincent Gregory and state Rep. Rudy Hobbs of Southfield plan to run.
Others running include Steve Dunwoody and Jessica McCall, who both worked for the Obama administration.
The district includes parts of Detroit, the Grosse Pointes, Southfield, Lathrup Village, Oak Park, Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield and Pontiac.
