Providence to hold free flu vaccine clinic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Anyone who needs a flu vaccine can get one for free at a clinic in Providence that will also offer vaccines to prevent whooping cough and pneumonia.

The clinic will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School in the city's Fox Point neighborhood.

The effort is a collaboration of the Providence Emergency Management Agency, the Rhode Island Department of Health and others.

The clinic will have both the flu shot and FluMist on hand. Health officials are encouraging anyone 6 months or older to receive a flu vaccine.

Pneumococcal vaccine to prevent pneumonia is recommended for anyone age 65 or older. Tdap vaccine for tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, or whooping cough, is available to anyone age 11 or older.
