CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia test center and goal kicker Christian Leali'ifano will have surgery on his oft-injured right ankle next week and the ACT Brumbies say they are not sure when the playmaker will be fit for the 2014 Super Rugby season.
Leali'ifano scored a try and kicked three conversions and three penalties in Australia's 30-26 win last weekend over Wales, the Wallabies' fourth in a row to end their season.
After major ankle reconstruction in 2012, Leali'ifano re-injured his ankle in a Rugby Championship match Oct. 5 in Argentina. However, he recovered in time to make the Wallabies' European tour.
Brumbies director of rugby Laurie Fisher told local media Wednesday "Christian's booked in for surgery and ready to go ... it's impossible to say how long it will have him out for."
