2 hydrants were out at NE Ohio steel plant fire

LORAIN, Ohio (AP) — Two nearby hydrants were out of commission when firefighters arrived at the scene of a weekend steel plant fire in northeast Ohio.

The Lorain fire department's report on Saturday's fire at Republic Steel says a shuttle was ordered to bring water but wasn't needed.

According to The (Lorain) Morning Journal (bit.ly/18UNiIC), engineers suspect a backfire from an operating furnace somehow got into the oxygen supply line.

Five people suffered minor injuries.

Damage was estimated in the millions of dollars.
