OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The friend of a teenager who was shot by an Oklahoma police captain says the unarmed 18-year-old was running away from the officer when he was fatally shot in the back.
Seventeen-year-old John Lockett testified Tuesday on the first day of testimony in the trial of Del City police Capt. Randy Harrison. Harrison is charged with manslaughter in the March 14, 2012, death of 18-year-old Dane Scott Jr.
Lockett said he was a passenger in a car driven by Scott when Harrison pulled up behind them in a police car. Lockett said Scott had marijuana and a gun in the car. He said Scott sped away before crashing.
Lockett said Scott and Harrison scuffled before Scott wriggled free. He said Scott was running away when Harrison fired at him.
