ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Police in eastern Ohio say they're trying to determine the circumstances surrounding a severely injured man found lying on a highway this weekend.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 22-year-old Jeffrey M. Root of Coolville was discovered by passing motorists around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 50 in Athens County.
Root had sustained severe injuries and was flown by Medflight to Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. As of Saturday afternoon, he was in critical condition.
The case remains under investigation.
