HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — A prosecutor says a convicted killer pleaded guilty to attempted murder after admitting he hit a 73-year-old Ohio woman in the head with a baseball bat because he wanted to go back to prison.
The Montgomery County prosecutor's office says 48-year-old John Mason pleaded guilty Friday in the Aug. 8 assault on a Huber Heights woman with whom he had been living.
Prosecutor's spokesman Greg Flannagan says Mason said "he would appreciate the maximum sentence." Mason faces up to 11 years in prison at his Nov. 14 sentencing.
Prosecutors say he hit the woman so hard that she now needs a prosthetic eye.
Mason was convicted of murder in Georgia in 1987 and had been on parole since 2007.
