GEORGETOWN, Ohio (AP) — A southern Ohio toddler wounded in a shooting attack that killed her pregnant mother is recovering after a fourth surgery.
WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reports that the grandparents of 16-month-old Aubree Stykes say she is doing well after the latest surgery stemming from the shooting.
Police responded Aug. 28 to a report of a vehicle off the road in Ripley, about 45 miles southeast of Cincinnati. They found 22-year-old Brittany Stykes dead and Aubree bleeding from a gunshot wound to her head while still strapped into her car seat.
Investigators say at least five shots were fired in the attack. No arrests have been made.
Brittany Stykes was buried with her unborn baby.
Stykes' family members have said they are baffled about why someone would hurt her and her children.
