LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas Department of Heath says a skunk found dead in west Little Rock was rabid.
The department said Friday that the skunk was found dead in the backyard of a home off Arkansas 10 and that the skunk was likely killed by a dog at the home. State public-health veterinarian Susan Weinstein said the dog was up to date on its rabies vaccination. She says the dog was quarantined as a precaution and given a booster shot as required by the Rabies Control Act.
Health officials say 134 rabies cases have been recorded throughout the state so far in 2013.
