SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A Northern California man charged with operating an illicit online black market known as Silk Road is due in court to argue for bail.
Ross Ulbricht is scheduled to appear Wednesday in a San Francisco federal court where a transfer to New York is also scheduled to be discussed. The 29-year-old was arrested in San Francisco on Oct. 1 but is facing drug and money laundering charges in New York. He is also charged in federal court in Baltimore with soliciting the murder of a witness.
The FBI alleges Ulbricht unwittingly hired an undercover agent to murder a former co-worker. Investigators said the murder was staged and no killing occurred.
Ulbricht has not entered a plea. A public defender said outside of court last week that Ulbricht denies the charges.
