Official: Break in NYC 'Baby Hope' cold case

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police have a break in the unsolved death of a child known only as Baby Hope.

A law enforcement official said Tuesday that the NYPD got a tip that led investigators to a woman they believe is the mother.

The remains of the 3- to 5-year-old were found in 1991 inside a picnic cooler discarded near the Henry Hudson Parkway. In July, around the 22nd anniversary of the discovery, police made a push to publicize the cold case. That resulted in a tip from someone who knew the woman.

The official says investigators have matched the DNA from the child to the woman. The official isn't authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The investigation is ongoing.
