Air Force museum in Ohio holds scholarship contest

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in southwest Ohio is holding a writing competition for students seeking scholarships.

Contestants in the Air Force Heritage and History Writing Competition must describe how American pilots' participation in World War I helped create a U.S. Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force. They also must identify two significant U.S. pilots of that period and support their arguments with research.

Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I.

The Air Force Museum Foundation provides scholarships of $1,500, $1,000 and $500 for first- through third-place.

Officials at the museum near Dayton say the competition is open to public, private school or home-schooled students between the ages of 13 and 18.

Entries must be submitted by Feb. 17.
