ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A high school freshman with Down syndrome is representing her class on Zionsville High School's homecoming court.
AnnCatherine Heigl was selected by classmates to be part of the court for Friday's football game against Fishers High school.
Laura Heigl tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/18BkRxE ) that her 14-year-old daughter understands it's an honor to be part of the court but doesn't realize how significant it is for a person with a disability to be chosen.
Temple University professor Frank Farley says society is becoming more accepting of differences than in the past and that Heigl's selection shouldn't be surprising.
Heigl is a cheerleader, sings in her choir and is a member of the tennis team. Her siblings planned to escort her onto the football field.
