DETROIT (AP) — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's headquarters in downtown Detroit is glowing pink as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Twelve-story pink lights in the shape of ribbons have been installed on the north and south sides of the building and will remain up throughout October.
The observation is part of the state's largest health insurer's 3-month #kickcancer (hash tag kick cancer) campaign.
Blue Cross Vice President Andy Hetzel says it seeks to "capture attention that early cancer detection is vital, can save lives and lead to improved health outcomes" for people getting treatment.
Blue Cross also will post personal stories from breast cancer survivors and their relatives on its blog at www.AHealthierMichigan.org . People can comment and provide personal perspectives on the disease's effects on their lives.
