SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Mainers are walking this weekend to raise awareness for mental illness and raise money for services and treatment.
Maine's chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is holding its annual 5K walk at 11 a.m. Sunday. The walk starts and finishes at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland.
The organization says its goal is to boost education, advocacy and system-wide treatment opportunities to improve the lives of people living with mental illness.
The Virginia-based organization is holding walks and fundraisers throughout the country.
The group says the event will also feature activities and food.
