Cox Media merging Hamilton, Middletown papers

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — Cox Media Group Ohio will merge its Hamilton JournalNews and Middletown Journal daily newspapers in southwest Ohio into a new daily called the Journal-News.

The newspaper will debut Nov. 1, focusing on in-depth investigations and local news and including more news from Cincinnati, the Hamilton JournalNews (http://bit.ly/19bHM1g ) reported Tuesday. Journalists from both newspapers will contribute to the Journal-News.

The Hamilton JournalNews has an average daily circulation of more than 17,000 and a Sunday circulation of around 20,000. It started publishing in 1886.

The Middletown Journal started publishing nearly 30 years earlier, in 1857. It has an average daily circulation of more than 14,000 and a Sunday circulation of more than 16,000.
