SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Springfield woman has died of injuries from a home kitchen fire last week, the second such death in recent weeks.
Fire department spokesman Dennis Leger said 34-year-old Opal Sanders died Monday at a Bridgeport, Conn., hospital where she had been transferred for treatment of severe burns.
Leger said another person at the home was treated for smoke inhalation from the fire, which was reported early on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
He said it was the second fatal cooking-related fire in Springfield in about a month. Sixty-five-year-old Dorothy Lee died at her home Aug. 14.
