ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Anchorage will continue to fluoridate its water.
The Anchorage Daily News reports (http://is.gd/rrQGHV) the assembly Tuesday night voted 9-2 to continue the practice despite a push by activists to stop adding fluoride to the municipality's water supply.
Fluoridation supporters include the American Dental Association, which says it's a safe and necessary way to prevent tooth decay.
Critics question the safety of fluoride. Activist Daryl Lanzon says the city shouldn't decide to use of fluoride.
The resolution approved by the Anchorage Assembly encourages critics to seek a citywide advisory vote on the issue.
