Ohio lawmakers hold painkiller info hearings

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Lawmakers are continuing their efforts to gather information from people around Ohio about the personal impact of the state's prescription painkiller epidemic and looking for solutions to the problem.

The House Prescription Drug Addiction and Healthcare Reform Committee plans a hearing Tuesday afternoon with individuals and families at Toledo Hospital.

The committee chaired by Rep. Robert Sprague, a Findlay Republican, held similar events this summer in Jackson and Hardin counties and plans an additional hearing in Cuyahoga County.

Overdose drug deaths driven largely by painkiller addictions have surpassed car crashes as the leading cause of accidental death in Ohio.
