Bison arrives to Ohio park to make bison babies

GALLOWAY, Ohio (AP) — A 4-year-old male bison is now calling a central Ohio park home. His mission: Make lots of baby bison.

He'll have plenty of opportunity.

Officials at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park in Galloway added six females to the park in 2011.

Park officials say they had planned to add a male all along, but wanted to get the females established first.

The male bison arrived on Wednesday, and park officials tell The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/17l1j2k) that he's fitting in nicely.

The bison hails from the conservation center known as The Wilds in eastern Ohio.

Officials hope by this time next year, a baby bison will join the new family.

Bison were added to the park to help boost attendance. It's up 25 percent this year.
