CAMDEN, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a 31-year-old driver died and her 8-year-old son was injured when a freight train struck her minivan at a private crossing near their southwest Ohio home.
Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson tells the Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/18Z5H4m ) a train was stopped on one of two tracks at the crossing, and the woman might not have seen the incoming train on the other track. The collision occurred Tuesday evening in Camden, roughly 40 miles north of Cincinnati.
Simpson said the boy was flown to a hospital but is expected to recover.
A Norfolk Southern spokesman says train engineers are supposed to use a horn when they near private crossings, but it wasn't immediately clear whether that happened.
The private crossing has a stop sign but no gates or lights.
