DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Nurses Association says it has filed an unfair labor practice complaint involving nurses at a psychiatric hospital in suburban Chicago.
The union said Monday that Maryville Academy's Scott Nolan Psychiatric Hospital in Des Plaines hasn't negotiated with the nurses on mandatory bargaining issues since talks began in March.
Alice Johnson of the nurses group says management has "refused to bargain about staffing." She says staffing is the most important issue to the two dozen nurses represented by the association. The nurses believe inadequate staffing contributes to what they see as unsafe working conditions.
The group filed the unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board earlier this month.
Maryville Academy managers didn't immediately respond to a phone call and email seeking comment on the complaint.
