COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A police report says a student at a historically liberal Ohio college took credit for some racist fliers earlier this year, calling them a joke meant to get an overreaction.
The student says in statements he gave after Oberlin College security detained him Feb. 27 that he printed out about 1,000 anti-Islam fliers and had also printed out a page of racist cards.
The student says in the statements he printed out the racist cards to show to friends as a joke and for the shock value.
Oberlin police Lt. Mike McCloskey tells The Associated Press Friday that prosecutors declined to file charges against two students and the investigation has been suspended for now.
Oberlin College spokesman Scott Wargo says the students are going through Oberlin's disciplinary system.
