ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A truck driver who was kidnapped by a trio of criminals following an Arizona prison break says he was sure he was going to die.
Prabhjeet Bains testified about his four-and-a-half hour ordeal Tuesday during the trial of one of the inmates, who is accused of capital murder in the 2010 killings of a retired Oklahoma couple who were carjacked from a New Mexico highway rest stop.
Bains told the court the trio held guns on him and his co-driver, but assured them they would be fine if they didn't do anything stupid. The trio freed them when they caught another ride in Flagstaff.
John McCluskey is the last of three defendants facing charges in the slayings of Gary and Linda Haas of Tecumseh (teh-KUHM'-sah), Okla. His accomplices pleaded guilty and are expected to testify he was the one who killed the couple.
