Mixed-race congregation prays for God's peace after Zimmerman trial

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — The pastor of a church in Sanford, Fla., is asking for prayer as a jury prepares to decide whether George Zimmerman is guilty in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

The Rev. Alan Brumback says his mixed-race congregation at Central Baptist Church isn't praying for either a conviction or an acquittal, but for justice and for God's peace following the verdict.

He says, "We've tried not to make it a racial issue. We've tried to make it a gospel issue."

Brumback has been preaching through the Ten Commandments, and this Sunday's sermon will be on "Thou shalt not kill." He says that applies to everyone, since Jesus said if you hate somebody, you've already killed them in your heart.

But Brumback adds, "The good news is, Jesus died to save murderers."
