2 challenge incumbent SW Ohio mayor

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An incumbent mayor in southwest Ohio faces two primary challengers.

Gary Leitzell (LEYET'-zuhl) is opposed by city commissioner Nan Whaley and former judge A.J. Wagner. The race is nonpartisan, but Leizell calls himself independent. The other two candidates say they are Democrats.

The top two vote-getters in Tuesday's primary will square off in November for the mayor's seat.

The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/17IwH7U ) that the race will be watched not only by Dayton residents, but those in surrounding communities. Suburban Centerville Mayor Mark Kingseed says the strength and viability of Dayton helps shape the region's image, and impacts the economic strength of the Miami Valley area.
