Snowmobiler rescued from deep crevasse in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Authorities say a Fairbanks man was uninjured after his snowmobile plunged into a crevasse and he fell at least 75 feet.

Alaska State Troopers said 41-year-old Tom Douglas landed on a ledge after his snowmobile was wedged into a narrow space 30 feet above him.

The mishap occurred Thursday as Douglas led a group of snowmobilers who were conducting ice and snow tests Thursday around Jarvis Glacier for Delta Soil and Water Conservation.

Troopers say the others determined Douglas was not hurt and left to seek help. Troopers were aided by the Rescue Coordination Center/
