Obama fundraises, catches Keystone heat in Calif.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — President Barack Obama is telling Democratic donors that he wants California Rep. Nancy Pelosi to be House speaker again.

Obama was attending four fundraisers for Democrats in the San Francisco area on Wednesday and Thursday. While in California, Obama was expected to face protests over the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, which is awaiting administration approval.

Obama's first event Wednesday was a reception at the home of Tom Steyer, a financier of environmental causes and owner of a capital management firm. Steyer opposes the pipeline, which would carry tar sands oil from Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast.

Obama spoke broadly about wanting to confront climate change. But said he needs to convince the middle class that he is working as hard for them as he is for the environmental agenda.
