MARYSVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Officials say a race car ran into two people at a California raceway.

Venue promoter Paul Hawes says the sprint car hit two people on pit row Saturday at Marysville Raceway Park some 40 miles north of Sacramento.

Hawes tells the Marysville Appeal-Democrat that the car crashed on the track and ran into pit row at high speed. He did not give the condition of the two people.

Officials from the Yuba County Sheriff's Department and the Linda Fire Protection District say they're responding to the incident, but would give no details.

The raceway was hosting the California Sprint Car Civil War Series on the opening day of its season.

An outgoing message on the track's phone line says only that Saturday's race has been canceled.
