WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) — A large trucking company plans to close a hub and distribution center in southwest Ohio in a move that affects about 280 jobs.

The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/ZBZsNv ) reports YRC Freight wrote to union leaders this week about plans to consolidate operations, including shutting down the hub in West Chester, north of Cincinnati.

Union representative Butch Lewis in Cincinnati says 279 employees will have to decide whether to find other work or relocate with YRC. One option could be the Indianapolis hub.

Lewis says the affected workers amount to more than half of YRC's local staff and include truck drivers, dock workers and mechanics.

The president of YRC Freight says it is trying to optimize its network to cut mileage and emissions. Its realignment plan requires union approval.
