COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Central Ohio authorities have arrested a man suspected of assaulting a sheriff's deputy during a January traffic stop and then running away.

The Franklin County sheriff's office says investigators found 28-year-old Fready Lopez of Columbus at a home in the city on Wednesday. They say he tried to escape in a vehicle driven by another person as officers approached, but the vehicle was stopped and both were arrested.

Officers had been searching for Lopez since the alleged attack on a deputy on Jan. 23. The sheriff's office says the deputy stopped a suspicious vehicle driven by Lopez and was hit in the mouth and upper body before Lopez ran away.

He was being held in jail for assault on a police officer. It wasn't clear whether he had an attorney.
