Suspect in killing of grandparents hospitalized after capture

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. (AP) — A man suspected of killing his grandparents last week in Washington state, just hours after his release from prison, is hospitalized in serious condition after his capture yesterday at a seaside motel in Oregon.

Authorities say a property manager at the motel recognized Michael Boysen's face and his name, after Boysen checked in under his own name Monday night. Tactical officers from several agencies surrounded the motel. After a tense day-long standoff, officers breached the door of the room where Boysen was holed up. They found in on the floor with apparently serious self-inflicted cuts.

No officers were hurt in the standoff.

Authorities in King County, where the killings took place, have sent detectives to Oregon in hopes of talking with Boysen.

The bodies of his grandparents were found Saturday in their suburban Seattle home, a day after Boysen was released from prison. He had served several months for burglary, and had previously spent years behind bars for robbery. He was supposed to stay at his grandparents' home after their release, and they even hosted a welcome-home party for him.

Officials are now learning that Boysen made threats against his relatives and against law enforcement officials while he was behind bars.
