Ohio commerce director to lead development agency

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's director of commerce will soon become the head of the state's Development Services Agency.

Administration officials say David Goodman will leave his post as director of the Department of Commerce for the new Cabinet position effective Monday.

Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) is expected to announce the change on Thursday.

Goodman was a member of the General Assembly for 12 years. Kasich appointed him to commerce director in January 2011.

Goodman will replace Christiane Schmenk, who has led the development agency since July 2011. She's pursing a position outside the agency.

Kasich spokesman Rob Nichols said Wednesday the move has been in the works for months.

Formerly called the Department of Development, the agency was recently renamed after key job-creation functions were transferred to JobsOhio, a new private nonprofit entity.
