DEFIANCE, Ohio (AP) — Prosecutors in northern Ohio say a woman has been accused in the killing of her husband nearly a decade ago and that she somehow convinced her 10-year-old step-son to pull the trigger and shoot his own father.
Authorities who investigated the 2003 shooting initially called it accidental. But authorities in Defiance County reopened the investigation last year and have now charged Judith Hawkey of Oakwood with aggravated murder, insurance fraud and child endangering.
Hawkey pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday and is being held on a $3 million bond.
Defiance County Prosecutor Morris Murray says new evidence led to the charges last week.
He says evidence suggests Hawkey caused an innocent or irresponsible person to commit the shooting.
A message seeking comment was left with Hawkey's attorney on Tuesday.
