BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A nonpartisan watchdog group is urging Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration for more analysis about expanding Louisiana's Medicaid program to cover more uninsured adults.
The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana — in a report released Tuesday — says there's been too little research to back up Jindal's refusal of billions of dollars in federal health care money.
Jindal opposes the Medicaid expansion allowed under the federal health law, calling it inappropriate growth of the government-run health program.
Estimates are that 400,000 more Louisiana residents could be eligible for Medicaid under an expansion, with the federal government paying most of the cost.
Jindal health secretary Bruce Greenstein has said his department hasn't modeled whether savings on uninsured care could offset the state's costs of a Medicaid expansion.
