3 Arrested For Allegedly Enslaving Mother, Child For More Than 2 Years

The U.S. Attorney General's Office says three people are in custody accused of holding a woman and her child captive for more than two years.

Author of detective novels to speak at fundraiser

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Famed mystery writer Sara Paretsky is booked to speak at a fundraising event next month in Springfield.

Southern Illinois University announced Monday that Paretsky will speak at the fourth annual Women's Power Lunch Against Cancer. The luncheon and book signing on April 12 benefits Simmons Cancer Institute at the SIU School of Medicine. Tickets are $50.

Paretsky created feisty female private detective V.I. Warshawski in the 1982 novel "Indemnity Only." Her latest book, "Breakdown," is the 15th installment in the Warshawski series. The detective novels are set in Chicago.

Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU provides cancer care, education and research to the people of central and southern Illinois.
