NEW YORK (AP) — Gail Sheehy and Andrew Solomon have been honored for books that inspire readers to lead better lives.

Sheehy has been voted into the Hall of Fame of Books for a Better Life. Her best-sellers include "Passages."

The annual Books for a Better Life awards are sponsored by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Authors receiving awards for books published last year include Solomon for "Far from the Tree" and Will Schwalbe for "The End of Your Life Book Club."

The prizes were presented Monday night in New York at a ceremony hosted by former "Today" show host Meredith Vieira.
