It is always good to file early just to get the tedious annual chore behind you. Another reason to file quickly is because identity theft scams are rampant, so the sooner you file, the sooner your tax file information will be locked and safe from scammers. That personal information includes not just your name and Social Security number, but also those of anyone else you list on your return, such as your spouse and dependents.
Even if you owe taxes, just because you file early does not mean you owe early. Finding out now what you owe will give you some time to work on gathering the money you need. You still have until April 15 to send your payment.
