Coroner: 2 adults, 5 children killed in Ky. fire

Saturday March 9, 2013 3:45 PM

GRAY, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky coroner says two adults and five children have died in a house fire in rural southeastern Kentucky.

Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins says the names of those who died Saturday wouldn't be immediately released. Blevins says officials are trying to confirm their identities.

Blevins says the deceased are a man, a woman and five children. He says the woman was the mother of three of the children, and the other two were from another family.

Blevins and state police said the cause of the blaze in the Gray community near Corbin — about halfway between Lexington, Ky., and Knoxville, Tenn. — remained under investigation.

Troopers said someone called 911 at 9:57 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters stayed on the scene until the fire was out at 1 p.m.
