TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Malayan tiger cub who had been critically ill has returned to play in his exhibit at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma.

Zoo officials say the cub named Berani returned to the exhibit Friday.

The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/qhDubG ) the cub had emergency surgery Feb. 25 after zookeepers noticed he didn't feel well. Veterinarians say his illness likely was a case of enterotoxemia, in which toxins caused by bacteria create an infection.

Zoo officials are still trying to determine what caused the infection.
