WARSAW, Va. (AP) — A bald eagle nursed back to health by the Wildlife Center of Virginia is ready to return to the wild.
The eagle will be released at noon Friday at the Rappahannock River Valley Regional Wildlife Refuge near Warsaw.
Wildlife center officials say the adult bald eagle was found in a Northumberland County roadway on Jan. 13. Center veterinarians believe it was hit by a vehicle, although it had no fractures. They did find elevated levels of lead in the eagle's blood.
After nearly two months under the center's care, the eagle is now flying well.
The release is open to the public. The center asks that attendees RSVP at wildlifecenter(at)wildlifecenter.org, and meet at Wilna House, the refuge headquarters building.
