ATLANTA (AP) — Cancer researchers and educators from across the country are meeting at Clark Atlanta University for the National Symposium on Prostate Cancer.
School spokesman Larry Calhoun says the event is being held March 18 to 20, and will feature speakers from the Mayo Clinic, the UCLA Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the Anderson Cancer Center and other universities.
Clark Atlanta University is home to the Center for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Development. Calhoun says the center is comprised of more than 50 research scientists, students and others who are devoted to increasing prostate cancer awareness — specifically in the African American community, which is disproportionately impacted by the disease.
The CDC reports black men have the highest rate of prostate cancer and are more likely than others to die from the disease.
