NEW YORK (AP) — Closing arguments are set to start in the trial of a New York police officer accused of plotting to kidnap, kill and eat women.

The arguments in the trial of Officer Gilberto Valle (VAL'-ee) are scheduled for Thursday morning. The federal jury in Manhattan could begin deliberations by the end of the day.

Valle was arrested in October after his wife discovered on his computer conversations in which he discussed killing and eating women, including her.

His lawyers say he's being prosecuted for indulging in Internet fantasies that never would've resulted in harm.

Prosecutors have showed jurors disturbing images of women being tortured and strangled.

Valle could face life in prison on a kidnapping charge if convicted. A Trenton, N.J., man faces a conspiracy charge in the case and awaits trial.
