HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut corporations are pledging money to a new fund that will help workers affected by the school massacre in Newtown.
Legislative leaders say both chambers of the General Assembly will vote Wednesday to create the privately funded Sandy Hook Workers Assistance Fund.
House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero Jr. says several hundred thousand dollars has already been pledged. Wrestling giant WWE, AT&T and Northeast Utilities are among the donors.
The public can also contribute to the fund through charities such as United Way, to help an estimated 150 to 200 people who were "on the ground" during the Dec. 14 shooting and the following days. The list includes first responders, teachers and others who have suffered from mental health issues.
The fund should be fully operational April 1.
