COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Collegedale have arrested the owners of an assisted living center after investigating reports of patient abuse and neglect.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/Zq9suu ) reported center owners David and Agnes Machoka and the lone employee of Moraa's Assisted Living Home for Seniors, Margaret Adhiambo, were charged. They face two counts of physical abuse gross negligence and six counts of willful abuse, neglect or exploitation prohibited.
The center had eight patients. Authorities said Adhiambo was not licensed to administer medication and was often the only person on duty.
Police began the investigation after some residents of the center were taken to a hospital and showed signs of abuse and neglect.
Collegedale Police Cpl. Melvin Taylor said all patients have been placed in other care facilities.
