RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) — Richmond police are searching for burglars who broke into an officer's home, poisoned two of his dogs and stole several guns.

Officials said Tuesday investigators believe the Richmond police officer was targeted last week because he was a cop. Due to safety concerns, they declined to identify the officer or the Richmond neighborhood where he lives.

Lt. Bisa French says the dogs were poisoned so the burglars could carry out the burglary. One dog died in a veterinary hospital and the other is recovering.

Police say the suspects stole five guns and some of the officer's personal belongings.

The Contra Costa Times (http://bit.ly/YMr2qk ) reports police are searching for suspects but have no leads. The police unions are offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to their arrest and conviction.
