DENVER (AP) — Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly, is scheduled to testify Monday in support of at least one of the seven gun-control bills before the Colorado Legislature in Denver.

The president of Colorado Ceasefire Capitol Fund tells The Denver Post (http://bit.ly/ZeaOZc ) Kelly will speak in support of a House bill that requires all private gun sales and transfers to be subject to a background check.

The retired Navy captain and astronaut has testified before Congress in support of gun-control measures. Giffords is a former Democratic congresswoman from Arizona who was shot in the head two years ago while meeting with constituents.

The Colorado Senate has set aside extra time and extra rooms for the hearings, which are expected to last late into the night and draw large crowds.
