COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Metropolitan Library is expanding its digital offerings to include movies and television shows.
The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/VlrcsY ) cardholders now have free access through a service called hoopla to more than 300,000 video offerings.
Columbus is one of seven library systems in the country to take part in the pilot program. The others are in Toledo; Charlotte- Mecklenburg, N.C.; Harford County, Md.; Los Angeles, Orange County, Calif.; and Seattle.
Users don't download the materials, rather access them through a remote device. That could affect data-plan limits.
Patrons can check out six items a month. As with books, items disappear from the device when the lending period ends.
The newspaper reports the hoopla project will also make available unlimited copies of digital books to library patrons.
