DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — The U.S. Air Force is saying it will ground its Thunderbirds jet demonstration team without a federal budget deal, putting the popular flight event's appearance at this summer's Dayton Air Show in jeopardy.
The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/13tFxqB ) the Air Force announced the planned grounding Friday and said Thunderbirds air support to public events would cease April 1.
Democratic President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans, led by U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) of Ohio, were unable to reach a deal Friday. Boehner's district borders Dayton.
The Thunderbirds were scheduled to appear at the Vectren Dayton Air Show on June 22-23. The show's executive director said the show will go on with or without the Thunderbirds but he is hopeful they'll be able to fly.
